Buy tickets to help support the beautification of Little Italy

What: The Little Italy San Jose committee will be hosting a special evening of authentic Italian cuisine, entertainment by renown Italian musician; Pasquale Esposito and fine Italian wines to raise money to bring a thriving new business district to Downtown San Jose. The gala is the launching point of an effort to raise $200,000 for the Little Italy project. The proceeds will be utilized to build three archway entrances and a beautiful tile mosaic mural depicting Italian American History in Santa Clara County under the adjacent Guadalupe Freeway underpass.

In order to keep administrative costs to a minimum, we have partnered with Silicon Valley Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Little Italy San Jose Fund is a donor advised fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation, allowing sponsorships and donations to be tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. We have a brand new lounge (located at the current Italian heritage facility), including a 50″ flat screen TV that gets all the Italian channels and loud speaker system–Exclusively–for us young people to “Pre-Game” at before we go out into downtown. Problem is- We don’t know what to call it???

So come out and enjoy DJ Ryan Melander spinning Italian dance beats, play bocce ball, drink wine and beer and of course, espresso. Plus eat some pizza and biscotti and cast your vote for what we should call our new Private Lounge! ($$$ Donations appreciated to help pay back the folks who fronted the cost for the TV and other amenities).

The Little Italy San Jose "Clean Up Day" was held on June 27, 2009.

Clean Up Little Italy San Jose

Last Thursday Joshua, our Chief Executive, met with the President and Deputy Officer of the San Jose Redevelopment Agency during a walking tour of Little Italy San Jose. As many of you know our main two priorities at the moment our locating parking for our committed Italian Businesses, and creating a master Art plan with Italian Murals in the underpass to create a stronger Italian feel for the Neighborhood. We gave a packet to the Redevelopment Agency including (13) Businesses with signed letters of commitment and a total of (31) Aunthentic Italian Businesses interested in Little Italy San Jose. This strong interest really showed the progress our Little Italy portion of the project has gained and the San Jose Redevelopment Agency is happy to help with assisting with parking concerns, landscapping, street realignment, arches and artistic murals in the underpass. We gave the agency a wish list for small projects for Little Italy and will be working on a Business/ Strategy plan for each project.

The First project that will be completed is a joint Volunteer cleanup day for Little Italy San Jose between the San Jose Redevelopment Agency and the Italian Community. This cleanup will take place on Saturday June 27th at 9:00 A.M. at Henry’s High Life near the HP Pavilion. The Agency will be providing dumpsters to allow us to throw away garbage, weeds, and weed trees. (Food and Refreshments will be provided, but please bring your own gloves and Garden equipment). This is an opportunity for us to begin to feel a sense of ownership of the River Street area as it becomes Little Italy San Jose!!
